Sickle Cell Program The objectives of “Living Well with Sickle Cell” are 1) provide trait counseling to families of newborns with the trait for sickle cell and other hemoglobin-opathies; 2) provide education about sickle cell to health care professionals; 3) provide education about sickle cell to community members; and 4) increase support for families with individuals with sickle cell and their families. In order to increase support for individuals with sickle cell and their families, each staff member is responsible for starting one new support group. Staff members also provide guidance and resources to existing groups around the state. Project staff meet with two foundations to develop strategies to better support the functioning groups.
