Kids for Health

“Kids for Health” is a program for children kindergarten through third grade. This unique program teaches children health education information in fun and interactive format. The curriculum is centered on five major topics: My Self, My Body, My World, My Health and My Choice.

These topics include programs on the brain, heart and lungs, stress and communication, nutrition and fitness and environmental health. The 16 lesson program is taught weekly at each of the schools throughout the school year. Teachers wear bright colored scrubs to get the children’s attention and follow up each video lesson with games; songs, dances, puppets. The teachers even dress up in costumes.

Each year the program begins with a pre-test in order to establish a baseline of student’s health knowledge. After the 10 lesson program is taught, a post-test is administered. This evaluation reflects the effectiveness of the program and the amount of information retained by the youth.  Programs are offered in schools in Helena, Clarendon, Marvell, Barton and Lake Village.
