Area Health Education Center- Northeast has been part of the health
community in our area for over 30 years. We realize that the reasons for our
sustained success revolve around three considerations: start with a good
idea, receive the support of the community and work very hard.
The need for primary care physicians has never been greater. Our family
medicine residency program continues to attract physicians for the residency
program and many of them stay in the area. Over 110 family medicine physicians
have graduated from our program since it began. We continue to expand our
educational offerings for students in medicine, pharmacy, nursing and health
related professions. We know from previous experience that these opportunities
can have a favorable impact on future practice site selection.
We are proud of the newly expanded area of our clinic where we care for our
Veterans Administration (VA) patients. Our VA patients are an important part of
the educational and service mission of AHEC Northeast.
We continue to expand the outreach of our effort in recruiting high school
and college students to health careers. We have a full-time health career
recruiter who goes to classrooms to provide educational programs regarding
health careers. She also coordinates experiential rotation opportunities for
students who want more exposure so they can make a good career decision.
