Increasing Roles of Academic Health Centers

GENERAL SUBMISSION INFORMATION

The following guidelines apply for oral presentations, posters, and symposia format.

1.                  Submissions must follow the directions for the proposed category and must be complete. Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed.

2.                  Submissions must be submitted electronically no later than September 1, 2007.

3.                  If you want to submit the same topic in more than one category, complete a separate, full submission for each category.

4.                  Your online submission must consist of the following:

Ø      A completed submission form

Ø      A completed abstract

Ø      If submitting a poster presentation, you must also complete a poster form

Ø      If submitting for a symposium, you must also complete a symposium form summarizing proposed presentation (include results or outcomes measured if applicable)

5.                  Every presenter will be required to complete a disclosure form indicating any financial arrangement or affiliation with any organizations that may have a direct interest in the subject matter.

6.                  All presentations need to be in one of two formats: PowerPoint or overheads. No slide projectors will be available.

 SUBMISSION CATEGORIES

 Oral Presentations

Purpose:          To provide a forum in which a new concept or review and reworking of an established idea can be presented, demonstrated, and discussed to enable participant to assimilate the concept.

Time:                           20 minutes

Attendance:    Limited only by space available

Submission:     1. Completed submission form

2. Completed abstract form (200 words)

 Poster Presentations

Purpose:          To encourage an informal exchange of information on innovative educational curricula, programs, research, or other projects related to AHC programs. Participants are invited to exhibit work in progress, innovations recently introduced, and established projects.  

Posters will be arranged as an exhibit area, so workshop participants can walk by and stop to discuss those posters of interest to them.       

Time:                           2-3 hours staffing your poster

Attendance:    Most participants will attend the poster session, as it will not be scheduled in competition with other presentations or activities.

Submission:     1. Completed submission form

2. Completed abstract form (200 words)

Symposia

Purpose:          To provide diverse perspectives and approaches to educational subjects or issues requiring collaborative work and presentation from multiple AHCs, and/or disciplines.         

Time:                           60 minutes

Attendance:    Limited only by space available

Submission:     1. Completed submission form

                        2. Completed symposium form

Workshops

Purpose:          To provide a task-oriented, small-group educational experience directed toward the understanding and acquisition of specific knowledge and/or skills.

Time:                           2-4 hours

Attendance:    May be limited

TIPS FOR FILLING OUT FORMS

All Presentation types require you submit an abstract with your submission.

Abstracts

You may find it easier to compose your abstract in your word processor then copy and paste it into the abstract text area. Use simple text, as no formatting (bold, underline, etc.) will be retained. Also most word processors have a word count available in the Tools menu making it easy to stay within the 200 word limit.

Presentation Submission Form

For all presenters, enter name as you wish it to appear on the program.
When entering the city name, please do not abbreviate.
For your state, use the United States Postal Service (USPS) two letter code.
If you need to look up your state on the USPS website – click here.
Always include the zip code, if you do not know it, you can look up here.
Phone number and Fax number must be entered in this format: 5011234567
Once you have completed the Presentation Form, with Oral Presentations as your submission choice, click the Save Changes button.
This will take you to a confirmation page, click on the Abstract Form link to proceed.

Poster Presentation

Once you have completed the Presentation Form, with Poster Presentation as your submission choice, click the Save Changes button.
This will take you to a confirmation page, click on the Abstract Form Link to proceed.
Once the abstract is completed, Click the Save and Continue button.
This will take you to a confirmation page, click on the Poster Form link to proceed.

Symposium Form

Once you have completed the Presentation Form, with Symposium as your submission choice, click the Save Changes button.
This will take you to a confirmation page, click on the Abstract Form Link to proceed.
Once the abstract is completed, Click the Save and Continue button.
This will take you to a confirmation page, click on the Symposium Form link to proceed.

You must submit at least three behavioral objectives, using the following format: "On completion of this session, the participant should be able to .... ". Additionally, you must complete these two sections:

  • Describe how your symposium will be organized

  • Abstract
