The Medical Director for the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Emergency Response.
Reports to the Deputy Commissioner for Public Health Preparedness and Emergency response.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Medical Director will be responsible for providing medical direction and policy development for the CDPH Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Program. The CDPH PHEP Program includes public health preparedness and hospital/healthcare system preparedness. The Medical Director will direct all medical planning activities within the PHEP Program including, but not limited to the development of All Hazards planning; pandemic flu plans; chemical/biological/radiological/nuclear/explosive plans; worker safety and Personal Protective Equipment plans and policies; Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) planning; hospital and healthcare system planning; etc. Incumbent will serve as the medical liaison to the CDPH Communicable and Infectious Disease Programs and Medical Informatics Program.
This position will also be responsible for medical decision making and policy development and guidance for the CDC and ASPR programs and will be considered as part of the senior management structure of the program. This position will report to the Deputy Commissioner for Emergency Preparedness. Performs related duties as required
Requirements
Graduation from a school of medicine with a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME); or the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG); or the Commission for Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) and completion of a residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), supplemented by two years experience in the formulation of Public Health Administration policies and procedures. Candidate must hold a current Illinois license to practice medicine and be board certified in Infectious Diseases, Occupational Medicine, Emergency Medicine or other specialty.
Masters in Public Health, Public Policy/Administration or Emergency Management preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill:
Candidate should have comprehensive knowledge and previous experience in emergency preparedness program activities at a local or state public health department health system and/or healthcare setting. Specific experience should include, but not be limited to emergency/disaster response and emergency/disaster planning.
Significant knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS), National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the National Response Plan (NRP), as well as skill in implementing these strategies is highly preferred.
